 1 Feb  Thaipusam Festival
 

This is a day of penance and thanksgiving by Hindu devotees held in honour of Lord Subramaniam. The festival is best experienced in Kuala Lumpur where the deity's jewelled chariot is led in a mass procession through the streets of the city, culminating at the Batu Caves in Selangor. An unforgettable sight is the thousands of devotees in a trance-like state carrying body-piercing Kavadis or ornate frames.

On this day, Buddhists observe the birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Buddha. Religious offerings and rituals such as 'bathing of the Buddha', chanting of holy scriptures, lighting of joss sticks and ordination of monks usually take place in Buddist temples. Come nightfall there will be grand processions in cities such as Kuala Lumpur , Johor Bahru, Seremban, Malacca and George Town.

 1-6 May National Water Festival - Labuan International Sea Challenge
Labuan
 The Labuan International Sea Challenge welcomes participants from around the world to share in an amazing week of :

i) Rolex IGFA International Game Fishing Tournament
The prestigious deep sea fishing tournament is part of the qualifying circuit of the Rolex/IGFA Offshore Championship. It is the region's most challenging and the only extended long range deep sea fishing tournament.
ii) Cross Channel Swimming Challenge
The swim spans 5.4 km of open sea towards Pulau Papan and back to Labuan. Local and international swimmers view to break past year’s speed records and set a new times in the domestic and open categories.
iii) Labuan International Extreme Kayak Challenge
Not one for the faint hearted, this race is one of the longest and toughest in Malaysia. Comprising the individual and double categories, the race will be in a double format covering a distance of 84 km across the Brunei Bay, starting from Labuan to Sipitang and back.
iv) Round Island kayak Challenge
The kayak race designed for the highly skilled enthusiast. The course is 50 km long and runs along the perimeter shoreline of Labuan Island.

A celebration by the largest ethnic group in Sabah, comprising the Kadazan Dusun and Murut communities. Held annually to give thanks for a bountiful harvest of rice, this event culminates at the state level in the district of Penampang. Here, visitors can witness and experince the Kadazan Dusun culture at its grandest scale. Join the locals as the sing, dance, feast and play traditional games! Touted as 'The World's Toughest Mountain Race', this race involves a run up and down the majestic Mount Kinabalu (4095.2). The total distance is 21km for all categories. The average climber takes two days to climb the mountain but participants of the race can make it in less than three hours. The race determines the ultimate Champion of the 7-series Federation for Sport at Altitude's (FSA) Skyrunning World Championship (racing on high altitude).

 30 Aug  50 Years of Nationhood - Merdeka Month Celebration  

August 31, 2007 commemorates Malaysia 's 50th year of independence or 'Merdeka'. This historic event is celebrated in joyous mood by Malaysians from all walks of life over a one month period. A host of activities is held in each state including parades, exhibitions of Malaysia's history and foreworks displays, culminating in a grand parade attended by Their Majesties; The King and Queen of Malaysia, Prime Minister, dignitaries and the public. A free open-air concert is held on the eve of Merdeka.
