2D1N Bayan Atuh Discovery

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION

Just a stone’s throw (about 30 minutes drive) from Sarawak’s capital city of Kuching, the Bayan Atuh ecotourism zone is perched amongst the mountain range that divides Sarawak, Malaysia and the Indonesian territory of West Kalimantan on the world’s third largest island, Borneo. Numerous idyllic Dayak and Bidayuh Villages dot the area, with the indigenous population maintaining their symbiotic existence with the bio-diverse tropical rainforest, and continuing their traditional ways via an agrarian lifestyle. Enjoy the serenity of the newly formed lake on your boat transfer. Traverse the many bamboo bridges, be amazed by magnificent waterfalls, fresh and swift flowing, mountain streams and enjoy the sweeping views of rice fields, mountains and valleys as far as your eyes can see as you trek above the clouds.

DAY 1

At 1300 hrs, depart Kuching for a 30 minute drive to the small township of Padawan, where you will brought around by your guide to hunt for a new pair of hiking shoes (the locally acclaimed legendary rubber shoes). Another 20 minutes drive later, you will finally arrive at the gates of the Bengoh Dam. Flooded some years ago, this water catchment area was built as a water reserve for Kuching and its surrounding area. Water-based activities in the area have to be kept minimal in order to reduce the impact of water pollution. A 20 minute boat ride across this magnificent lake will take you through lush greenery against a mountainous backdrop, until we finally reach the foothills of Kampung Sting (a resettled Bidayuh village). You will alight here, carrying your own backpack and begin a 20 minute walk uphill. At the end of your climb, you will be generously rewarded with breathtaking views of the Bengoh Dam. Check-in to your homestay, rest, relax and enjoy the setting sun as it slowly disappears behind the mountains. Dinner will be served and Overnight in the homestay (D)

DAY 2

Before sunrise, catch a glimpse of Bengoh Lake blanketed in a sea of clouds (weather dependent). Breakfast will be served at 0800hrs. After breakfast, get ready for day filled with fun and adventure as you prepare yourself for a day’s hike to the majestic falls of Kling and Susung. Check-out from the homestay and bring along your backpack as you will end your hike at the lake. This walk will bring you through lush secondary forests, fruit orchards, and cocoa and pepper plantations. You will also see how the villages are powered when you pass underground rivers and small waterfalls along the way. For those who are afraid of heights, test yourself with a walk across a bamboo bridge suspended only by two steel braided cables. The first waterfall you will arrive to is the 3-tiered Kling waterfall. Take a dip in the cooling waters as your guide prepares lunch. After lunch, proceed to the thunderous falls of Susung for photo taking or another dip at the nearby pools (if time permits). Activities directly under Susung waterfall is not allowed due to the strength of its flow. Return to Bengoh lake where your boat awaits. Transfer across the lake for your return overland trip back to Kuching (B/L)
