Drive 83km from Lahad Datu airport to Danum Valley through selectively logged forest, cocoa and soft-wood plantations before arriving at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge beside Danum River on the edge of 438 sq. km of undisturbed lowland rainforest. The Lodge is home to the full range of Sabah’s lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran Rhinoceros, Pgymy Elephants, Clouded Leopards, and Orang Utans. So far, some 275 species of birds have been recorded in the area. After Lunch, proceed to Conference Room for slide presentation. In the Afternoon, introduction to the forest by trekking to nature trails and tree top Canopy Walkway. At night, after dinner and if weather permits, please join the night drive or night walk. After breakfast, spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins “Coffin Cliff”. Trek to waterfall for a dip in refreshing rock pools - “Jacuzzi Pool”. Return to lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, jungle trek or go for a relaxing session of “tubing” down the Danum River. In the morning free at your own leisure. After lunch, check out for the lodge before departing for Lahad Datu. Take the late afternoon flight back to Kota Kinabalu. (B/L)
