Unique Discoveries – Borneo Sarawak – 8D/7N


Day 1:  Arrive at Kuching -
Point A

Breakfast provided

Upon arrival, you will meet our representative and the Discover Kuching City & River Tour commences.

As the perfect introduction to Sarawak’s historical capital, this tour includes Chinatown, the Cat Statue, the colourful Tua Pek Kong Chinese Temple, the Civic Centre Viewing Platform and the world famous Sarawak Museum.

We will get the chance to visit the unique Cat Museum across river, passing the magnificent State Mosque and the Astana, the former residence of the White Rajahs. We will return via the Golden-Domed City Mosque and proceed on foot through Old Kuching, visiting the colourful Central Markets while squeezing through narrow alleyways crammed with spice dealers and textile shops. Pass by the heritage buildings of the White Rajah era, the Pavilion, the Square Tower, the Court House, the Charles Brooke Monument and the famous Post Office to get the taste of this historical state. Before tour ends, we will take an hour pontoon boat river cruise viewing this great city. You will be transferred to check-in to the hotel. The rest of the day will be free at your own leisure

Day 2:  Kuching / Sarikei / Ulu Sarikei-
Point B

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner provided

After breakfast, we depart early from Kuching using a local express boat (fast passenger ferry). We will arrive at Sarikei by noon time where you will meet with your guide. Sarikei is a town, and the capital of the Sarikei District. After our lunch, we will venture for a simple walk tour around this small town along the Rajang River bank. Get fascinated by a few rows of Chinese old chops for local crops and products trading. We will continue overland to Ulu Sarikei Iban longhouse where you’re going to spend the night.(an approximate of 1-hours drive) Upon arrival, meet and greet with your host (previously head-hunters) before checking in to your room. A simple brief about the long-house’s history and the programs for the next day will be discussed. Together with your host, you can join in the culinary by preparing your local recipe meals in time for dinner. Before bed, share a little bit of culture and valuable stories with the longhouse folks.

Day 3:  Ulu Sarikei / Sibu -
Point C

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner provided

Wake up early to join the locals going to the rubber farms to tap rubber. Learn firsthand from them the traditional method on how to tap rubber to get the best oozing rubber. Come back to the longhouse for breakfast. Proceed to one of the nearby clean water stream, and you might take a dip if it favours you. Enjoy some splashing moment and fun at the simple yet naturally beautiful water steam. You can embark on a soft trekking through the secondary forest, passing by pepper vineyard and farms. You can cross small streams and climb small hills. You will have your packed lunch before going back to longhouse. Check out the locals processing rubber on the way back. Say goodbye to your adopted family before making the next transfer to Sibu (an approximate of 1.5 hours drive). Upon arrival at Sibu, check-in and the rest of the day will be free at your own
leisure

Day 4:  Sibu / Mukah -
Point D

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner provided

After breakfast, start by walking alongside Malaysia’s longest river, The Mighty Rajang River located at the Rajang Esplanade. Visit temple by the river and the Seven Storey Goddess of Mercy (Kuan Ying) while checking out Sibu’s oldest commodities trading point and wharf or called ‘the Floating Market’. You can visit the biggest Central Market in Malaysia which consist 1,200 stalls and featuring varieties of local and interesting products. You may not only witness the local people’s trading style but explore some ‘one of a kind’ products which is available only in Sibu. After lunch, proceed to Dalat via speedboat cruising through the mighty Rajang & Igan River, passing by Malay villages, shipyards, timber & sago processing factories, Iban longhouses and Melanau villages. Meanwhile, stop by Sungai Kut Melanau Village for a village walk around to experience the serenity and peace this village offers. Continue to Dalat by passing small river which boasts the combination of rainforest and mangrove. Arrive at Dalat to visit the Church by the River & Dalat’s iconic Garden – The Jerunei Garden. We will continue the journey to Lamin Dana. The Authentic Melanau Village, which highlights Melanau Cultural Centre is a haven for relaxation and enjoyment. Indulge the exotic Melanau dinner and check-in thereafter.

Day 5:  Mukah / Miri -
Point E

Breakfast and Dinner provided

After breakfast, boat ride to cruise along Tellian River, and pay visits to the local sago processing centre,

the cottage industry of producing Tebaloi (Sago Biscuits) and Sago Pearl which maintain the traditional processing way. Proceed to the Mukah market where you can experience tradings of local people. At the market, you can observe some of the local products that’s on sale such as the Siet (Sago Worm), Umai (Fresh Raw Fish) and other exquisite delicacies. After lunch, we will proceed for Mukah Mangrove Trails (Crossing the Mukah River by cruising the Melanau River Taxi). You will come across monitor lizards, monkeys and tree climbing crabs depends on your luck. Towards evening, we will transfer by flight to Miri Airport (an approximate of 1-hour duration). After gathering, we will depart from Miri airport and transfer to hotel for check-in, the rest of the day will be free at your own leisure.

 

Day 6:  Miri / Mulu  - Point F

Breakfast and Dinner provided

After breakfast, we will start the journey by traveling by flight to Mulu. Upon arrival at Mulu airport, we will proceed with the transfer to Royal Mulu Resort for check-in. In Mulu, lies one of the most extensive and spectacular limestone cave systems on earth, as well as the second highest mountain peak in the state. After lunch, we transfer overland to Mulu Park Headquarters. From there, embark on the 3 kilometers Plank Walk to explore Deer and Lang’s Cave. Watch the flight of thousands of bats if weather permits. Soon after, we will return back to the Park Headquarters and transferred back to resort. Dinner will be served while the rest of the day will be free at your own leisure.

Day 7:  Mulu

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner provided

After breakfast, we will depart by longboat cruise to explore Wind Cave Nature Reserve. The Wind Cave Nature Reserve is part of the Bau Formation, a narrow belt of limestone covering about 150 sq km of Southwest Sarawak. We will have a stopover at the Penan Longhouse. The Penans are the last remaining semi-nomadic people of Malaysia. Soon after, we proceed to explore the magnificent Clearwater cave - Asia's longest cave, measuring some 107 km.  We can swim and lunch at local restaurant before transferring back to resort. Dinner will be served while the rest of the day will be free at your own leisure.

Day 8: Mulu

Breakfast provided

After breakfast, you will be free to explore the surrounding area of Mulu on your own leisure before your transfer to Mulu airport for your flight to your onward destination. (Option for beach stays: Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, etc)
