Unique Discoveries – Borneo Sabah – 7D/6N


Day 1:  Arrive at Kota Kinabalu -
Point A

Upon arrival, you will meet our representative and the Discover Kota Kinabalu Tour commences

The tour begins at Kota Kinabalu also known as the ‘Land Below the Wind’ where this is a phenomenal wonderland to set foot upon. Formerly known as Jesselton which is the capital of Sabah, it is where the early beginnings of the humble civilization of Malaysia flourished once upon. Among the highlights of the tour are Signal Hill, Atkinson Clock, Sabah Foundation building, City Mosque and the local Handicraft Market. You will be transferred back to hotel after the tour. The rest of the day will be free at your own leisure.

Day 2:  Kota Kinabalu / Kudat -
Point B

Breakfast and Dinner provided

After breakfast, we will transfer overland for a 4-hour long journey to the Northern area of Sabah. Arrive first at Matunggung Village before proceeding to Gombizou Village to visit the Honey Bee Farm. We then stop at the Sumangkap Village, a well known gong (a traditional instrument) making centre. Later, depart to the Bavanggazo Rungus Longhouse. Upon arrival, welcome drinks are served. At the longhouse, watch and admire the skills of the locals as they weave bead necklaces and bracelets, as well as produce homespun cloth made from cotton. In the afternoon, proceed for lunch before taking a drive to the ‘Tip of Borneo’ to watch the mighty sun diminish elegantly beyond the horizon. Also, witness the picturesque view of the South China Sea meeting the Sulu Sea. We will then put up at the Bavanggazo Rungus Longhouse after dinner.

Day 3: Kudat / Bilit -
Point C

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner provided

After breakfast, we transfer overland to Bilit Rainforest Lodge located beside the Lower Kinabatangan River in the village of Bilit, a base for easy exploration of the incredible diversity of plant, mammal and birds at the Kinabatangan region. (an approximate of 3-hours)  Upon arrival at Bilit Jetty. Take a boat transfer to the lodge. Welcome drink, short briefing and check-in. Lunch will be served at Bilit Rainforest Lodge Restaurant. Later, join a river cruise in search of endemic Proboscis monkeys, different species of birds and other wildlife along the river bank. Finally, we will proceed to the resort where you will be briefed regarding the next day’s activity. You can then be free at your own leisure.

Day 4: Bilit

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner provided

Before breakfast, you will be given the option for Early Morning Cruise or Jungle Trek to Ox-Bow Lake for bird watching. Return to lodge for late breakfast. Free at leisure. Lunch will be served at Bilit Rainforest Lodge Restaurant. Towards evening, join a river cruise in search of more species primates and wildlife along the Kinabatangan River bank. The rest of the day will be free at your own leisure.

Day 5: Bilit / Lahad Datu / Tabin -
Point D

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner provided

After breakfast, we will make our way to Lahad Datu, our checkpoint before reaching Tabin Wildlife Reserve. Transfer from Lahad Datu to Tabin Wildlife Reserve on gravel road (an approximate of 1-hour drive). Upon arrival, register, unpack and relax. At noon, visit the Lipad mud volcano located nearest to Tabin base. After trekking through the beautiful forest for about 30-mins, we will arrive at the elevated bare area of the mud volcano known to be frequented by deer, wild boars, elephants and birds. Look out for and identify footprints of animals. Those adventurous ones can experiment the effect of the volcanic mud said to be responsible for fine complexion. After dinner, there will be night activities such as nocturnal wildlife and birds spotting.

Day 6:  Tabin / Tawau -
Point E

After experiencing a quiet and fascinating night at Tabin, get ready for some coastal breeze and journey into the rural area of Sabah you can ever imagine of. Our next destination will be Tawau Hills Park. We will transfer overland for an approximate travel time close to 6-hours. You will be reaching Pekan Kunak where you can have your lunch in this beautiful small town, left untouched for from modernisation. Here, you will drive along coastal road, and peaceful serene drive along trees perched calmly. Just 25-mins from main town, Tawau Hills National Park is being taken care by Sabah Parks. It is also Sanctuary for Tallest Trees in the World. The park is a home to macaques, red leaf monkeys, forest tortoise, giant squirrels, hornbills and pheasants. Occasionally, one may chance upon civet cats and the elusive clouded leopard. For those seeking peace and tranquility in beautiful surroundings, this is the ideal getaway. One can go swimming in the stream, jungle trekking, bird watching, Here, you can enjoy half hour walk on a 900-meters Jungle Trail from park entrance. You can witness Bukit Gelas Waterfall, famous for its crystal clear and cold rush of water, or experiment the Sulphourous Spring found here. We have Mt. Lucia to climb in case you acquire the interest to conquer certain summits. All in all, your day will be well spent on this point of the map.

Day 7:  Tawau

Breakfast provided

Free at own leisure till departure pick up, where you will be transferred to the airport / jetty for your onward destination. (Option for beach stays: Kota Kinabalu, Lankayan Island, Pom Pom Island, Mataking Island, Mabul Island, Sipadan-Kapalai, etc)
