KUALA KANGSAR: Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, who were on a one-day visit here, toured the Sultan Azlan Shah Gallery at Bukit Chandan.

Accompanied by the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Nazrin Shah, they spent about 20 minutes at the gallery.

On the way to the school the royal motorcade slowed down for them to take a look at the oldest rubber tree in the country near the Kuala Kangsar district office.

The royal couple was then taken on a motorcade to Istana Iskandariah, Bukit Chandan, here where they were welcomed by Sultan Azlan Shah, Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Bainun and members of the Perak royal house.

The Japanese royals, and Sultan Azlan and Permaisuri Bainun later exchanged mementos before adjourning for a luncheon at the palace's banquet hall.
