Tiger Airways set to fly to Sarawak

Singapore's budget carrier, Tiger Airways, is set to fly to Sarawak.
State Tourism and Urban Development Minister Datuk Wong Soon Koh said the Transport Ministry has given the green light to Tiger Airways to fly to Kuching, Miri and Sibu.

He said the service would be a boost to Sarawak's tourism industry as lower airfares would attract more Singaporeans and foreign tourists in the island republic to visit the Land of the Hornbills.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnam Mansor had said here recently that his ministry was pushing for Tiger Airways to fly to Sarawak and other parts of the country. Malaysia Airlines and SilkAir now ply the Singapore-Kuching sector.

On the recent re-organisation of domestic routes, Wong welcomed Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy's assurance that MAS would reinstate some domestic flights that were cancelled on Aug 1. These flights included those in the Miri-Kota Kinabalu and Kuching-Bintulu sectors.

At a separate function earlier when opening a Chinese cultural show at the Borneo Cultural festival, Wong said Sibu would host the Miss Tourism World pageant next September.

He said the pageant would help make Sarawak more visible to the world.
