Sunday (09 Jul), Malaysians need not be in Berlin to get the feel of the World
Cup final as street parties will held in Penang, Kuala Lumpur. Maxis,
the main broadcast sponsor of the World Cup final, has joined forces with PowerScreen,
to host a party in Jalan Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur. According to Maxis Communications
senior manager (Hotlink marketing and consumer business), they will set up a giant
TV screen at the intersection of Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Pudu. The
screen, at 15.5m by 10.4m, would be bigger than any of those placed at venues
in Germany. The screen size would be 700 times larger than a 29-inch TV set, he
added. The event is a party for all Malaysians to get together to savour the exciting
and interesting moments of the final. In other words we are bringing Germany to
Malaysia. Besides the giant screen,
five other screens will be placed along Jalan Bukit Bintang. The party would begin
at 9pm with international and local artistes entertaining the crowd. About 50,000
people are expected to turn up. In
Penang, the party will be held at Upper Penang Road (UPR). The World Cup final
on Astro will be screened at 2am on one 6m screen and two 3.6m screens at UPR.
Another 3.6m screen will be placed at the nearby Leith Street. Dancers
and local artistes, will be on hand to keep the crowd entertained as they wait
for the match. Live @ UPR is supported by the Penang Municipal Council and the
Penang Tourism Action Council. (News
